University of the South Pacific economics lecturer Dr Janesh Sami has made it clear that the days of freebies, overgenerous tax giveaways are over.
He made the comment during a presentation at the Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue on the Fijian Economy yesterday.
Dr Janesh said Fiji’s economy was emerging from a huge economic contraction, with limited fiscal space and uncertain external conditions.
He said sustaining growth would be a challenge.
“A balanced and realistic budget, not a popular budget is what voters should anticipate. Days of freebies are over,” Dr Janesh said.
