Daiana Ravudolo is a familiar face that greets visitors at the pine station in Seaqaqa.

Ms Ravudolo, a nursery officer, is one of two women out of 21 staff members who work at the station.

She looks after 54 landowning units from 25 villages within six districts.

Ms Ravudolo nurses more than 700,000 seedlings at the station which is spread over hundreds of hectares, a task that requires pure dedication and patience under the hot sun.

She has earned respect for her professionalism at the station and remains adamant to inspire other women to work like this.

“Over and over again we are reminded that chances of getting employment in a vastly male-dominated field can be daunting,” Ms Ravudolo said.

“It takes the right employer to notice women’s contribution also, I must admit. Here I have managed to show what I’m capable of, and I have also earned respect.

“Nursing pine seedlings for example is not easy, it requires fitness, willingness, and support from home and at your workplace.

“I would like to advise women to work in fields like this.”

Recently, the station also welcomed a new nursery cooler to keep 600,000 seedlings.

Her advice to all women is to aspire to be who they want to be and let history take its course.
