Court Orders FNU To Pay $55k To Terminated Staff

Vikash was employed by FNU as manager recruitment since September 2015 to September 2020. His contract was summarily determined by FNU on December 21, 2015.

The Fiji National University (FNU) has been ordered to pay $55,000 as lost wages to its former manager recruitment for unlawful and unfair termination.

Vimal Vikash took FNU to court for unfair and unlawful dismissal of his employment.

Vikash was employed by FNU as manager recruitment since September 2015 to September 2020. His contract was summarily determined by FNU on December 21, 2015.

The termination of employment letter dated December 21, 2015 stated that the human resources had received a number of allegations laid against Vikash including recruitment of his spouse, his father and mother-in-law at FNU.

High Court Judge Justice Anjala Wati said every employer should exercise good faith in an employment relationship.

The way this employer had conducted itself showed that it did not have regard to the welfare of this worker and all that the employer was hell bet on its termination.
