7th Melanesian Arts & Culture Festival

The 7th Melanesian Arts and Culture Festival (MACFEST) is underway in Port Vila, Vanuatu.

Melanesian countries took part in the opening parade on Wednesday where the event was opened by the Vanuatu Prime Minister, Ishmael Kalsakau.

The last MACFEST was held in Honiara, Solomon Islands, in 2018.

The festival’s theme is ‘Rebuilding our Melanesia for our future’.

The event, hosted by the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG), includes Fiji, New Caledonia’s, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.

The Fijian delegation, led by Minister for iTaukei Affairs Ifereimi Vasu, presented their gifts to the Chief of Malampa Province after the opening ceremony.

On Tuesday, Mr Vasu and respective heads of delegations from Melanesian countries presented their “Sevusevu” to the custodians of Port Vila at Ifira Island.
