A newly commissioned Fiji Pine Group office opened in Lekutu, Bua yesterday worth $400,000.

Minister for Forestry, Kaleveti Vodo said the Bua Station was established back in the 1970s when pine planting began in this province, funded through Government grants and later through loans.

However no focus was given to the establishment of a processing facility.

“As a result, the station infrastructure was neglected to a state where back in 2010, there was hardly anyone based at the station here,” Mr Vodo said.

“Bua saw a light when Government established a port at Wairiki.

“Later the company set up a woodchip mill in Wairiki in 2012.”
