Knysna 'panga murderer' to apply for bail

A 62-year-old man who allegedly murdered his estranged partner with a panga in Knysna, on the Garden Route in the Western Cape, is to apply for bail next week.

Anita Pyl, 55, was declared dead by emergency services at Hornlee on October 14. Shortly after the gruesome discovery, police arrested Gordon Kampher.

He appeared in the Knysna magistrate's court for a second time on Monday as residents protested outside against gender-based violence.

Charmaine Sinclair, founder of NPO Changes of Knynsa, said Pyl had given “no reason or acted out in a manner that could’ve influenced [Kampher's] decision”.

Protesting community members asked that the accused not be granted bail, reported the Knysna-Plett Herald.

Kampher will appear in court to apply for bail on October 31.
