Chiefs midfielder addresses struggles at Naturena

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder George Matlou has finally explained what delayed his progress as he addresses his struggles at Naturena, lamenting a spate of injuries.

Matlou joined Chiefs from Moroka Swallows in July 2022 and has struggled to cement his place at the club owing to a series of injury setbacks.

Speaking to a football publication, iDiski Times this week, Matlou said he is working hard under coach Molefi Ntseki to become a regular.

Looking at his contribution this season, Matlou has started three of five DStv Premiership matches and one of the two games in the MTN8.

He has since credited his resurgence to hard work and looked back at his struggles in the previous season at Chiefs.

“It is just hard work,” Matlou is quoted by iDiski Times.

“Of course, I didn’t have the best start last season, unfortunately, I got injured. Injuries were there for me last season but I just make sure that whenever I’m given a chance, I’m just going to use it.

“No matter how many minutes I play, what matters most is me playing, giving my best.”

With Ntseki’s Chiefs having failed to secure wins in four matches across all competitions, they finally bounced back and defeated Sekhukhune United in Durban this week.


The South African reported that ahead of the clash against Babina Noko, midfielder Matlou said they are behind the keeper, Brandon Petersen.

Matlou and defender Zitha Kwinika said the former Ajax Cape Town and Bidvest Wits keeper, Petersen has confidence in his abilities.

“He has confidence. If you start listening to people from the outside, you are going to lose it,” said Matlou per TimesLIVE.

“As players we have to support each other. We can’t leave him alone because that won’t help. He is a good goalkeeper and he is confident.”
