Amanda Black’s fashion sense: Three times the singer slayed on stage

Soul singer Amanda Black had fans conflicted about her on-stage outfit. We take a look at her other fashion looks.

Soul Singer Amanda Black kept the socials buzzing this week when fans had differing opinions on her stage outfits.

An attendee at one of her concerts posted a picture and complained about the SAMA award-winning ‘Amazulu’ singer’s stage outfit. Black wore a short-patterned dress, short black biker tights underneath it, and no shoes, leaving fans unimpressed. Some suggested she looked as though she was going to the local store to buy groceries and that a performer should pay more attention to their fashion presentation.

This led into a debate about how singers and performers should present themselves to paying fans when on stage.

Did she deliver through the services she was paid to do, or was her singing as bad as her dress code?

Some fans, however, people should attend performances for her voice and not what she wears.

This dress is normal if you are going to my friend's shop not for a performance. This is her https://t.co/NVTNmyi2MJ don't show up like that for work.

But still dress up well in professional environments. Even the crowd was dressed better. Putting on a pair of flops and tights with messy hair too is extremely disrespectful to your audience.

Others jumped into the conversation, saying that she should have tried harder with the look and that she’s a performer who’s a package and not just a voice.

I don't think anyone was expecting Amanda Black to come looking like a slay queen but at the very least to be neat. Comb your hair, not have your tights (which are underwear btw) to show. All people were expecting was for her to respect her audience and to just put in effort man.

The former Idols finalist has previously been hailed for keeping her beauty and fashion naturally African, while adding a touch of regal glam. Now fans are accusing Black of not trying as much as she used to with her glam.

It was suggested by fans that she return to some of her previous stage looks.

Amanda dresses in local designers and keeps her make-up minimal and looks natural. She appears to enjoy embracing her Xhosa culture by applying white painted dots to her face.

In Xhosa culture, the dots are part of a beautification called umchokozo, which includes yellow ochre and decorative dots. It’s a ritual that symbolises being proud leaders and custodians of Xhosa culture.

We take a look at some of Black’s past fashion and beauty looks:

Beauty in black

With short-cropped hair, Amanda shows off her beautiful features by adding white dots to her makeup and carrying dark lipstick with minimal makeup.

She shows off her beautiful legs in sheer knee-high socks and leather military-style boots.

Wearing a black dress and adding the showstopper piece, sheer black and silver cover-up.

Beaded beauty

Keeping with her signature short-cropped coif, Amanda wears a leather outfit.

Her top had tulle sleeves and a front cut-out and her pants were well-fitting leather. She rounded this off with black boots.

Amanda wears accessories well. She accentuates the colour of the outfit with a black and white beaded headband while adding a longer neckpiece that has intricate patterns.

She adds beaded triangular earrings to match the neck and headpiece.

Trendy tulle

In another black-and-white image, the singer wears a black bodice with a wide tulle skirt.

The stunning ensemble is embellished with a beaded neckpiece. This is a simple outfit that stands out and announces that Amanda has arrived.

Adding to her makeup, her signature white dots are the pièce de resistance.

It seems Amanda’s current fashion identity is ‘less is more’.
