FOUR newly-elected Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) councillors are eyeing the Victoria Falls mayoral post, Southern Eye has learnt.

Councillors Ephius Mambume, Prince Thuso Moyo, Nkanyiso Sibindi and Rich Mguni have thrown their hats into the ring for an election to be held on Tuesday next week.

Matabeleland North CCC chairperson Prince Dubeko Sibanda, confirmed the upcoming elections.

Victoria Falls Combined Residents Association chairperson, Kelvin Moyo, urged councillors to vote for responsible persons who are not corrupt.

“We want someone who befits the Victoria Falls city status in order to tap into local and foreign investments … to be able to stand and defend the cause of the city without being tainted with corruption allegation. We do not want someone residents will not agree with,” Moyo said.

“The mayor is the face of the city and must fit well in the progressive narrative of the city and stand on behalf of the residents to protect their interests, cultural values and norms.

“We are a cosmopolitan city and a lot more is expected from the first resident because our mayor is the first resident of Victoria Falls and must have a track record of good leadership to blend well with the progress of the city.”

The previous mayor of the resort town was Somvelo Ndlamini who was elected on an MDC Alliance ticket in 2018.

The CCC won 14 council seats in the August 23 and 24 elections. There is one independent councillor in the resort town municipality.
