MANZINI - The life and future of a female University of Eswatini (UNESWA) student doing her third year has been short-lived, after she supposedly committed suicide.

Lindokuhle Dlamini, a 22-year-old student at UNESWA, was found hanging from a tree by a family member at Gundvwini. The saddening discovery which claimed the life of the student occurred on Sunday at around 9am, at her parental home. The deceased’s sister, Mbali, shared with this publication that they were only aware as a family, that Lindo was unwell, but did not anticipate that she would eventually end her life. She said they were expecting her to return to school, as the university reopened on Monday. Mbali narrated that the deceased greeted the family in the morning on Sunday, and told them that she would be returning to school.

“At around 9am, some of the family members went to look for her but she was nowhere to be found,” the sister stated. She went on to share that after a while, a family member discovered Lindo hanging from a tree next to a house. Mbali disclosed that lately, her sister had been aloof and acted strangely as she would be often found crying. The sister mentioned that the deceased would be secretive and not seem to confide her issues to anyone.  “We are distraught as a family as we keep asking what could have possibly troubled her such that she could take away her life.  But only God knows,” Mbali expressed. The sister said they had met as a family and funeral arrangements were yet to be discussed.  UNESWA Student Representative Council (SRC) Secretary General Zethu Mbingo could not be reached for comment on her phone at the time of compiling this report. In the same breath, UNESWA Registrar Dr Salebona Simelane could also not be drawn for comment as he could not be reached.  Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed that a 22-year-old woman was found dead on Sunday morning.
