MBABANE - He has made the country proud.

This is the story of the William Pitcher College and Eswatini Royal Police Service (REPS) Athletics Club  athlete Manqoba  Nhlabatsi, who was yesterday welcomed back into the country by his sponsors in Secretary of the Republic of China (Taiwan) Embassy to Eswatini, John Lai in an event that took place at Hwa-li restaurant in Mbabane. Nhlabatsi, who is set to thrill in the inter-varsity games at Mavuso Sports Centre tomorrow, recently won the Belau Omal Marathon, which took place a fortnight ago in Palau and won E20 000 plus a drown from the China Airways, who were also one of the sponsors of the marathon to the tune of E20 000.


The Palau winner won the race defeating other well-known athletcs from Africa and some other parts of the world.  The gifted long distance runner finished ahead of the over 1 200 athletes who took to the streets to run the 21km race. Palau is an archipelago of over 500 islands, part of the Micronesia Region in the Western Pacific Ocean. The athlete returned from the half marathon on June 8. The athlete was sponsored to the tune of about E70 000 by the embassy. “I would like to thank the embassy for giving me such an opportunity to represent my country in Palau and for the sponsorships. I was happy to win the race and winning the race has motivated me to prepare for other upcoming races this year, which are my target to win.“I would also like to thank the people in the country who were with me in prayer for the race. I would also love to thank Athletics Eswatini (AE) and the Eswatini Sports and Recreation Council (ESRC) for supporting me,” he said.
