Dear Editor,

I recently had a baby who had to be admitted to the NICU, my baby stayed about 6 weeks and I must say for most part I had a wonderful experience.

They’re a few young nurses in there I believe their new and when I say these nurses are so kind and polite.

From the time they open that door a few of them always have a big smile on their faces and greet me warmly.

However the main reason why am writing this is because I have seen another side to this place.

One day one of the new nurses were working with 2 other nurses, I recognized one of them from Holberton days.

The new nurse had my baby that day and I asked her a question and she politely said am not sure but I will ask the senior nurse, she went and ask the question and I heard that same nurse in the glasses answered her in a rough tone and said ” wa she need for know all that for, she pickney sick”.

Anyway the new nurse came back to me and said I will inform the doctor and let her know you need an update.

Shortly after I saw the new nurse went in the kitchen to start preparing the baby foods, as soon as the nurse went into the kitchen the same nurse that’s suppose to be senior started degrading the nurse and at the time I was not the only parent in there.

She started saying the nurse dunce and she don’t know why they send them to work in the NICU and she went on.

This was actually the first time I have witnessed this, but as the weeks gone by it continued.

Sometimes when some of these senior nurses (that’s what they called the experience nurses) are working you can feel the tension because the new nurses just try to keep out of their way and not do anything to make them upset.

Honestly I think this needs to be addressed by bigger heads in the hospital.

We have alot of piggish nurses and we don’t want the new ones to inherited this behavior. This is why we have this problem now because the long time nurses not setting any example for the new ones.

I really hope these new nurses in the  NICU do not fall into this behavior.

Another mother wanted us to make a report but honestly we didn’t know who to report it too, so am making this public with hopes of higher ranks in the hospital seeing this.

I don’t believe in bullying and this was so distasteful and I hope something is being done about this.
