Woman accused of smuggling drugs into Tennessee prison faces murder charges after inmate's death, Tennessee Department of Corrections says announced on Tuesday. Rachel Dolarard has been charged with second-degree murder and bringing contraband into a prison facility.
During a visit in February, Dollard allegedly passed drugs while two inmates, Joshua Brown, were kissing, she said, TDOC. According to the TDOC, Brown eventually swallowed a balloon pellet containing half an ounce of methamphetamine and died in a local hospital. Rachel Dollard Tennessee Department of Corrections
Brown was sentenced to one year in prison for drug-related charges at the time, according to 11 TDOC. Dollard is being held at the Hickman County Jail.
"This case shows the real dangers and ensuing consequences of bringing contraband into prison," said TDOC Investigation and Conduct Management. Director David Imhof said. Imhoff said in a statement. "Our agency will pursue prosecutions against our staff, the men and women in our custody, and individuals who threaten the safety and security of our facilities."
