Woman in custody allegedly at the wheel of deadly LA-area accident like fire

With the driver of a Mercedes-Benz sprinting through a busy intersection and being hit by several cars. A person in the Los Angeles County community of Windsor Hills was released from hospital on Thursday and was detained at the Century Regional Detention Center, also in the City of Lynnwood, Los Angeles County.

The accident claimed five of his lives, including his pregnant mother and infant son.  

Her 37-year-old Nicole Lorraine Linton was arrested onFriday on suspicion of manslaughter through gross negligence. 

The Houston native is a registered nurse and is likely to face charges from the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office on Monday. 

Linton said he is being held on $9 million bail.

As many as six vehicles collided near a gas station about 10 miles southwest of downtown Los Angeles, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Several people were thrown from the vehicle. 

Video shows the Mercedes driving through an intersection, bursting into flames, being sent full speed onto the pavement and crashing into at least two cars caught in a gas station corner sign. A furious force led to one car. One vehicle was torn in half.

The car was traveling at least 80 km/h when passing through a busy intersection, said Franco Pepi, an officer on the California Highway Patrol.

Television reports showed a blackened and wrecked car as well as his child seat in the rubble covering the street.

Pepi said eight of his people, including the Mercedes driver, were taken to hospital.

Other victims suffered minor injuries, including a 33-year-old woman and her 6-year-old child. was From 13 months to 15 years old, said Pepi.

A witness to the crash, Veronica Esquivel , told CBS that she was in Los Angeles and that she tried to help the baby. said he couldn't. 

"I was about to inject gas, and suddenly I heard all the noise from all the collisions, and then there was an explosion of fire, metal and objects flying through the air. So I just hid behind the pump," she told the station.

Esquival told KTLA-TV that the baby was thrown out of the car and her He said he landed nearby.

Debra Jackson told CBS Los Angeles that she was getting out of her car to pump gas when she heard a large explosion.

"Fire hit everyone," said Jackson. "The flames spread all over my car and I was told to jump out of the car...I was about to get out of the car and I went to the petrol pump. The car is sitting right there." 99}
