BASEKTBALL coach, Fako Masupha, has signed a one-year contract with South African side, Eastern Cape Windbreakers Basketball Club where he has been named the men’s team assistant coach.
The team plays in the National Basketball League of South Africa.
The club’s general manager, Brian Mfundo Magwaca, confirmed to the Sunday Express this weekend that they had hired Masupha.
“Fako Masupha has been signed for our team for this season,” Magwaca said.
“As per Basketball National League rules, coaches are employed on a season-to-season basis.”
Magwaca said he believed Masupha was the right candidate for their technical team. He said their mission was to win their first five games of the league.
“When I looked at Masupha’s resume and heard from one of our players about his interest in finding a team this side, I was certain that he was the man I was seeking and the best fit for our technical team,” Magwaca said.
“Coaches are expected to enhance and develop their teams and that is what we expect from our new coach. The objective is to sweep our first five games,” he said.
Masupha also confirmed the developments and said he was happy to get the opportunity.
“I am very happy with the opportunity, and I am ready for the challenge.
“This is my time to show the world my capabilities and use the opportunity to enhance my coaching skills.”
Masupha is the co-founder and coach of Bokamoso Basketball Club. He is also the former president and technical director of the Lesotho Basketball Association (LBA).
He started his coaching career in 2010 at Johnson Baker High School in Mafeteng. He later went to Christ the King High School and won National High School Championship.
During his coaching days at the National University of Lesotho (NUL), he won Lesotho Universities and Colleges Sport Association (LUCSA) gold medals from 2011-2013. He also led NUL to winning a silver medal at Botswana, Lesotho and eSwatini (BOLESWA) Intervarsity Games in 2013.
Masupha was the national under-17 basketball coach for the 2012 Confederation of Southern African Schools Sports Association (COSSASA) Games in Namibia and also the under-20 coach at the African Union Sports Council Region Games in Zimbabwe in 2014.
