First package of dry port construction works nearing completion, Nganglam

The construction of the dry port at Nganglam in Pema Gatshel is progressing well. The first package which was supposed to be completed by the end of this year is almost complete. The contractor executing the work expects to wrap up the remaining tasks by the end of this month. Meanwhile, the contractor who is carrying out the second package has already started the work.

The first package includes site development, construction of walls, gate and road among others. For now, the remaining works involve some final touch-ups.

The contractor attributes the timely completion of the work to favourable weather conditions with less rainfall.

“If the project is completed before the deadline, it will also benefit the contractor of T&K Construction who is executing the package two works. Today, some parts of the sites are not handed over,” said Subash Rai, Site Engineer of the Department of Trade.

Due to the timely completion of the first package of work, the Department of Trade awarded the package two works to a contractor in April. The works include the construction of the warehouse, blacktopping the road and construction of staff quarters.

The construction of the entire dry port is scheduled for mid of 2026.

Once the dry port is completed, it will facilitate cargo movement for export and import and boost economic activities in the east and southern districts.

More than Nu 425 M is being spent on the construction of the dry port. The government of India is funding it.
