The Election Commission of Bhutan has placed 3,277 polling officials at 811 polling stations across all dzongkhags as the country goes to poll to elect the 20 National Council members out of the 89 candidates today.

ECB Director of Secretariat and also its spokesperson, Phub Dorji said that the commission is all set for the poll day.

The commission deployed more than 6,000 officials for the fourth NC elections.

There are 485,811 eligible voters as of January 1 this year out of which 249,071 are female and 236,740 are male.

Of the total, around 105,753 eligible voters have registered for the postal ballot services—105,077 from in-country and 676 from overseas.

The voting will start at 8am and close at 5pm. Voters have to carry their original citizenship identity card or voter card.

On the poll day, voters are not allowed to carry firearms, including knives or other weapons. Mobile phones, cameras or any other gadget that records the sounds or images are also not allowed inside and around the polling stations.

All offices, schools, educational institutes, shops and businesses in the 20 dzongkhags will remain closed.

Many voters travelled out of Thimphu in hired buses to their villages to vote.
