Venezuela's top diplomat appreciates LatAm solidarity against sanctions

CARACAS, July 19 (Xinhua) -- Latin American and Caribbean countries expressed their solidarity with sanction-hit Venezuela during the just-concluded third European Union-Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) Summit, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil said Wednesday.

"We felt the solidarity of most or all of the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean that condemned the use of unilateral coercive measures against our country," Gil said in a phone interview with state-owned Venezolana de Television.

The South American country's state companies, oil industry and several high-ranking officials have been plagued by sanctions imposed by the U.S. government since 2017.

Gil described Venezuela's participation in the July 17-18 summit in Brussels as "successful," adding that Latin America and the Caribbean presented itself as "a solid, mature region" with respect for international law.
