CELAC science meeting promotes regional cooperation

CARACAS, June 28 (Xinhua) -- Over 63 proposals came out to promote cooperation in regional science activity after a meeting of ministers and authorities of Science, Technology and Innovation of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), said a Venezuelan official on Wednesday.

Contributions in "research, development and innovation" were made to the region at the meeting concluded on Tuesday, the Venezuelan Minister of Science and Technology Gabriela Jimenez said.

"This meeting was aimed at promoting regional scientific activity by debating and consolidating possible solutions and answers to common problems," the minister added.

Experts addressed seven working groups with topics such as sustainable food, communicable and non-communicable diseases, space activities and climate crisis adaptation.

They also worked on areas including artificial intelligence and technology for social inclusion, as well as the exchange of knowledge.

CELAC, as an intergovernmental mechanism that brings together 33 Latin American and Caribbean countries, has dedicated to reforcing regional integration.
