BWU: Labour Department not doing enough to investigate complaints

General Secretary of the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU) Toni Moore is concerned that the Labour Department is not doing enough to investigate a significant number of worker complaints.

Speaking at a press conference at the union’s Solidarity House headquarters today, she said this was reflected by the number of work stoppages recorded so far this year over issues that have gone unattended for an extended period.

While acknowledging that the Labour Department has resource shortages, Moore said this could not be used as an excuse.

The union boss said the lack of follow-through on long-identified issues was a serious concern. (SB)
