Accused thief remanded

His record of thievery and the fact he has no fixed place of abode resulted in Junior Anderson Grafton Yarde being remanded to Dodds on Thursday.

Yarde, 63, appeared before Magistrate Bernadeth John in the No. 2 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court, accused of stealing $150 belonging to Aziza Mangera between September 4 and 4, 2023.

“I don’t know nothing about the money. Everybody talking about money, but I don’t know nothing about no money. I was working, and I got a lash in my foot,” Yarde said after the charge was read by the magistrate.

Asked whether or not he was guilty of the allegation, Yarde responded, “Not guilty”.

Sergeant Randolph Boyce objected to bail for the accused based on his antecedents. The prosecutor revealed that Yarde had 66 previous convictions, some of which were similar to the charge now before the court.

He also asked the court to note Yarde had no fixed place of abode, and he said the prosecution was concerned that he may not turn up for court when needed.

The strength of the evidence was also put forward by the prosecutor as among the grounds for denying the accused bail.

“There is footage to support that stance,” he told the court.

After hearing the submissions, Magistrate John remanded Yarde to Dodds until October 5, 2023.
