Yankees want Clay Holmes' IL stint to be 15 days

The Yankees want Klay Holmes to remain on the injured reserve list for at least 15 days due to left hip cramps.

Holmes will not be tested because he locked up his back while playing catch on Sunday.

"I don't think it's structurally like that," manager Aaron Boone said Wednesday before the Yankees faced the Rays in the stadium. "Nothing to worry about. Hopefully he'll be down for a few more days and then he'll be back soon."

Holmes had lost some grip on the role of closer before his injury. But Boone reiterated Wednesday that the Yankees will continue to use something closer per committee, depending on the specific game matchup, and mentioned Scott Efros and Aroldis Chapman in that mix.

"Depending on where we are, who's available that day, where we're in the lineup, we'll try to put everyone in the best position to be at their best," said Boone. ``It could be some guys.''

Giancarlo Stanton (Achilles tendonitis) had his third pregame workout on Wednesday. Boone said he hopes the slugger will be on rehab duties by the end of this week and back with the Yankees by next week.
