Video captures teenage stolen Kia, driving off highway

Minnesota highway traffic camera video shows a group of teens crashing a stolen Kia car and driving off. The situation is reflected.

It happened Saturday on Interstate 35E northbound, according to Fox 9. Footage shows a stolen Kia crashing into the median after the driver tried to avoid a police stop bar. Four of his teens then jumped out of the smoking car, ran, dodged traffic, and ended up on the other side of the road where state police were waiting. A 14-year-old boy and his three girls, who were 15 years old and 17 years old, were arrested.

Two of the girls suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital, officials said.

The incident began around 5:30 pm. A rental car company contacted St. Paul Police to tell him that he had been stolen in Minneapolis and was on his way to St. Paul in 2021. said a police spokesman.

"St. Paul police called in state patrol helicopters for assistance, and the pilot used coordinates from his GPS tracker to locate Portland Street and Dale in St. Paul. We located a car parked in the street,” reports Fox 9.

The teenagers returned to their cars as police cars approached. A police spokesman said officers backed off as the car passed through a residential area, but a helicopter chased the Kia as the driver drove erratically through city streets onto a highway.

The crash occurred approximately 15 minutes after the incident first began.

Law enforcement agencies in the region have expressed concern over a nationwide trend linked to Hyundai and Kia thefts this summer. A Tiktok video shows how a thief uses a USB cable to steal a vehicle.
