This package contains ammunition for two American artillery systems deployed by Kyiv: the 155 mm Howitzer and the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS). .
The shipment also includes mortars, high explosives, air defense missiles, and 50 armored ambulances.
"This package provides a large amount of additional ammunition, weapons and equipment. These are the types that the Ukrainian people use very effectively to defend their country. ', Pentagon spokesman Todd Breasseale said in a statement.
The announcement follows President Biden's use of so-called "drawdown" powers against Ukraine, which allows him to ship US military inventories to allies in crisis. This is the 18th time.
Additional ammunition Medical supplies will come as Ukraine ramps up its counteroffensive in the southern province of Kherson, ahead of an expected move to retake territories captured by Russia on the war's opening day.
The counterattack was partially enabled by American-made artillery systems such as HIMARS. HIMARS has become a key part of efforts to expand Ukraine's offensive capabilities and disrupt Russian supply routes within the occupied South.
