(CNN)Prior to July 4th, Cooper Roberts was almost always active and running around. His family said he loved playing sports such as soccer, baseball, and soccer, and riding his bike.
"The atrocities of being shot by a sniper are layered. No," Cooper's family said in an update on his condition on Tuesday. "He is an eight-year-old boy feeling hopeless, sad and angry as the reality of his life begins." Cooper's family has provided regular updates on the child's condition in the weeks since the attack, hoping to do so. Doctors worked to repair injured organs and stop infections.
His family said Tuesday that the child is still in "constant pain" from slow-healing internal wounds. He is suffering from stomach pains as his body re-learns to process mostly liquid food.He is on heavy painkillers. and continues to do so," said Update.
According to his family, Cooper had recently started eating solid foods, but felt "full and nauseous" after just one or two bites. As I participate in rigorous physical and occupational therapy each day manipulating , two ports, a (catheter) line and three tubes exiting my body, I am beginning to realize the severity of my limitations.
And the emotional toll is just as high. Due to Covid-19 regulations, Cooper misses his home and his family, and he can only see them once a week. His family says it may still be a few weeks before he can join his twin brother in third grade.
"It's very difficult to convince Cooper to be happy again," said the family.
