Nicki Minaj Wins Video Vanguard Award and to Appear at 2022 VMAs

Nicki Minaj, who sang "Queen of Hip Hop" on MTV, won the Video Vanguard Award at the 2022 Video Music Awards.

The awards ceremony is set to take place later in August, when Minaj will join previous winners Janet Jackson, Missy Elliott, LL Cool J, The Beatles, and more.

Bruce Gilmer, Paramount President of Talent and Music Programming, said: "She changed the music industry and cemented her position as a global superstar with her crossover charm, genre-bending style and unabashedly 'Nicki'."

This global superstar has been nominated 17 times and won the VMAs five times. 

Minaj, who was nominated for Best His Hip-Hop Video of the Year, will also be on the show for the first time since 2018. She shared her excitement with her fans on her social media.

Since the announcement, fans have been inundated with reactions across social media, with former winner and rap legend Missy Elliott sending congratulations to Minaj. Tweeting, Minaj responded, "You kicked this door down. Nothing but love and respect for your iconic artistry."

The announcement comes less than a week after a man who pleaded guilty to a hit-and-run accident that killed Minaj's father was sentenced to a year in prison..

Anitta, J Balvin, Marshmello x Khalid and Panic will also perform at this year's ceremony. ET on MTV. The show takes place at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
