On Monday night, Federal Bureau of Investigation officials raided the former President Donald Trump's residence in Marr his Lago, pursuant to a search warrant. In doing so, federal agencies took the toughest, most disgusting action against a former president in our nation's history. This search goes far beyond the need to retrieve the documents and return them to the National Archives. This is about the weaponization of the federal government against political opponents and the American people.
To say that this raid was unprecedented is an understatement. Never before had such measures been taken in similar circumstances. In fact, I was part of the Benghazi Commission. The commission was investigating Hillary Clinton's illegal handling of classified information while she was secretary of state. We have proven that she illegally kept thousands of confidential documents in her private residence.Did the FBI raid her house and look for these documents? Absolutely not. So far, there have been no allegations that documents at the Trump residence were in danger of being destroyed or made public. In contrast to Clinton, who used BleachBit to prevent anyone from seeing the material she owned.
