Bronx smash-and-grab net for $2.14 million in 'high-end diamond jewelry': NYPD

Classic smash-and-grab robbery in Bronx robbed of over $2.15 million in 'fine diamond jewelry' while caught on ambitious footage won. Friday robbery, police said.

The foursome ran into Rocko's His Jewelry on Fordham's Webster Avenue, according to officers.

Surveillance video shows the suspect wearing a white T-shirt, black hat, and sunglasses. Instead of him going inside, the man let a gang of robbers inside, the video shows.

It was reported to police that on Friday, August 5, 2022 at approximately 1438 hours, at Rocco's Jewelry located at 2521 Webster Avenue, an unknown individual approached the front door and was buzzed inside of the store by an employee. This individual then held the door open for an additional three individuals. Once inside the store, the three individuals used a hammer to smash open the display cases and removed a large amount of high-end diamond jewelry. The jewelry was placed into bags being carried by the individuals, who fled the location on foot heading southbound on Webster Avenue. The total value of stolen property is approximately $2.15 million. No injuries were reported.

A man wielding a hammer while breaking a glass case , officers said other thieves took out trays containing expensive cheap jewelry.

"Once inside the store, the three men used hammers to pry open display cases and took out large quantities of fine diamonds and his jewelry," police said.

Police said the jewels were placed in a bag and the thief fled the location on foot, heading south down Webster Avenue. 

The attack lasted about 30 seconds, as security footage shows.
