9-year-old boy kills 15-year-old girl, Baltimore police say

Homicide investigators have determined that a 9-year-old boy was involved in the shooting that killed a 15-year-old girl in Edmondson Village, Baltimore on Saturday.CBS Baltimore reports.

The boy was on the porch among the children, police said Sunday. 

A weapon allegedly in his possession exploded around 8:00 pm, according to police.

The boy dropped his gun and ran after a bullet hit his 15-year-old Nykayia Strawder in the head, officials said.

An ambulance transported her teenage girl to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead, according to police. was done.

Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison told reporters Saturday night that "there were boys on that porch," and detectives said, "The parents we're trying to contact. We are working with multiple underage witnesses who have parents or guardians."

Officers checked the gun's serial number and found it was registered to a woman who had an affair with the boy, police said.

Authorities said the women worked as armed guards.

Under Maryland law, children as young as 9 are not prosecuted, police said. However, investigators were working closely with the state's attorney's office, and some charges related to the shooting were still possible. 

Strader's father, Dontay Jones. said he was at home when the shooting happened.

Jones was with his wife and children when a "loud muffled noise" was heard from his front door. He said it was unclear whether the sound was a gunshot.[43][44]Jones went downstairs to investigate and found that Stroda was bleeding "from the head, the back of the head, the side." I found it doing.

"There was so much blood everywhere, I couldn't really tell," he said.

Jones said he wanted the man who shot his daughter to know that he had "robbed the world of a very precious angel." We'll never be the same without her," he said.

"Nine-year-olds should not carry or have access to weapons," he added.

Donyette McRae, Stroder's great aunt, told CBS Baltimore that there was tension between the boy and Stroda's brother before the shooting.

The two had a fight before the boy appeared outside the Strohder house with a gun.

"Her brother had two fights with him before this," she said McCray.

Stroda's family seeks justice after a deadly shooting incident.

"He needs to take responsibility for his actions," McCray said. ``I have no baby. The first is his teenage years.
