Lightning strikes near White House kill 2, injure 2

Washington (CNN)A lightning strike across the White House on Thursday night killed two people and injured two.

A lightning strike at Lafayette Park near the White House on Thursday night injured and killed James Mueller (76) and Donna Mueller (75), DC A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police confirmed. The couple was visiting from Wisconsin.

The condition of the other two injured on Thursday was not immediately apparent.

According to law enforcement sources, the victims survived the storm under a tree.

A heavy thunderstorm struck the Washington, DC area around 7 pm. ET Thursday.
