2 adults and 2 children killed in golf cart suspected of drunken driving

Espinoza, who lives in the city of Rosenberg in the Houston area, and his passenger suffered minor injuries, police said. They were taken to hospital and later released.

Gaspard said the pickup crew was not injured. The name and age of the deceased were not immediately released.

Gaspard said he believed the rented golf carts were legally operating on the city streets. He said members of two different families were in the golf cart at the time of the crash. Mr. Brown said the city has in the past enacted ordinances aimed at safe operations. He said he plans to consider additional ordinances at a future city council meeting.

"I was out last night," said Brown. "The island was lively and there were golf carts all over the streets. Residential golf carts and rental golf carts."
