A woman who was a target of AFL star Jonathon Patton's sexting scandal says she's 'happy' he is no longer part of the game after he announced his retirement.
Patton, a former Greater Western Sydney and Hawthorn full forward, quit the game for good on Friday following a string of knee injuries and off-field incidents that plagued his short career.
Elle Coonan, 22, told the Herald Sun she was relieved to see the 27-year-old remove himself from the AFL community.
'To see a man losing his job, that'll get the message through,' Ms Coonan said.
'I'm happy he won't have the same power over women and they won't see him as special. It will send a strong message to others that you can't get away with it.'

Ms Coonan said she received unsolicited lewd pictures and videos from the former No.1 draft pick through social media.
Patton said his behaviour was 'completely unacceptable'.
'I have made the difficult decision to retire from football to focus on my health, wellbeing, and future outside of the game,' the former star said in a statement.
'The constant battle to overcome injuries since I entered the AFL 10 years ago has been relentless and, on many occasions, overwhelming.
'I also want to take this opportunity to apologise for my inappropriate behaviour towards women.'
Patton said he has taken 'time to reflect' on what he described as 'mistakes', saying his retirement was due to off-field issues rather than recurrent injuries.

'My actions were completely unacceptable, and I am truly sorry for any distress I have caused,' he said.
'I am committed to continuing to learn from my mistakes and actively make the necessary changes.
'I have very much appreciated the opportunities I have been given by both Hawthorn and the Giants and for the continued support I have received from countless teammates, staff and fans from both clubs.'
Patton played 95 games in the AFL for the Giants and Hawks, kicking 133 goals.
He was drafted by GWS in 2011, and he was tipped to be the face of the club following his debut in the 2012 season.
A succession of injuries stalled his progress, before he joined Hawthorn last year, where he featured in just six games.

Patton's retirement comes after he checked into a mental health facility in January after a string of women came forward to claim he bombarded them with lewd and sexually explicit messages and phone calls.
One woman came forward to say that Patton became pushy and 'unrelenting' after they met on a night out in Sydney back in 2016.
The woman, who wanted to remain anonymous, said Patton initially appeared friendly and wooed her.
After having breakfast together, she slept with him, but has since admitted it was 'something she came to regret'.
She said from that moment, Patton began calling her on FaceTime, sending Snapchats, texting and messaging on Facebook.
'They were constant, unrelenting and of an explicit sexual nature,' the woman explained.

Two other women have provided screenshots of Patton allegedly trying to catch up with them throughout 2020 while he was on the hunt for a girlfriend.
In a short blog post written and published by the Hawks, the players were asked about their off the field goals for 2020.
The club vowed to 'keep tabs on how these ones pan out' as they shared a list of the best answers among players.
While players Sam Frost simply wanted to wear more sunscreen and Ollie Hanrahan vowed to dress better, Patton explained that he was hoping to land a girlfriend.
The Covid pandemic and subsequent creation of an AFL hub to keep the game alive dampened his efforts, forcing him into a quarantine which lasted a good chunk of 2020.
But according to allegations made by Ms Coonan, and another anonymous woman, Patton was still making an effort to meet women while in the player hub.
Ms Coonan, from Brisbane, claims Patton offered to fly her out to Sydney while he was staying there, and messages which appear to be sent from his account ask her if she'd be interested in visiting him in Melbourne.
Meanwhile a woman he had a fling with in Sydney prior to moving to the Hawks alleged he reached out to her after returning to Sydney for the hub.
In two separate messages, Patton allegedly asked the woman 'what she was up to', which she interpreted as an invitation.
