Video shows 'officers detain a man in their undercover police taxi car'

Shocking video has emerged appearing to show a man being arrested and taken away in an unmarked police car designed to look like a city yellow taxi.

The clip was shared by Twitter user @dertyduchess, early on Tuesday morning, who said the man was detained by authorities 'from his car' who then 'took his keys and drove off'.

The video has been viewed more than 2 million times.

Shocking clip shows NYPD officers detaining a man who a Twitter user claimed had just been sitting in his car

A man can be seen being placed in the car. The person filming the footage refers to the police as the 'federales'

The New York Police Department could not be reached for a comment.

In the brief footage, the user narrates seeing the cop car. The high end car clearly is different from the usual cab models seen going across the city.

The vehicle is a Toyota Camry. Most taxis in the city are Nissan NV200 models.

At one point, the Twitter user refers to the officers as the 'Federales' - a term used to describe federal agents in Mexico.

Officers tell bystanders filming the scene to go home as they take the man away.

It is unknown what charges the man was met with, if any.

New York City is currently under a 8pm curfew as protesters clash with police across the city.
