An emotional groom picked up not only a wife on his wedding day but also two new daughters – when he surprised them with an adoption request at the altar.
Through floods of tears, stepfather Dontez Williams, 33, from Detroit, Michigan, asked if his new stepdaughters, Abigail, 9, and Natalie, 8, wanted to be adopted.
After exchanging vows with his wife, Myshella Burton, 26, at the San Marino Club in Troy, Michigan on August 13, Williams made an emotional speech to the young girls.
Dontez Williams asked his stepdaughters Abigail and Natalie whether they wanted to be adopted at the end of his wedding ceremony to their mother Myshella Burton
The two girls were unaware of the adoption surprise until their stepfather asked them
The two girls broke down into tears when they realized what was happening as onlookers can also be seen getting tearful
Williams said: 'I have transitioned from a stepfather to a father to these girls and love them dearly.
'Although they are not biologically mine, blood could not make us any closer. I wanted to make it official in becoming their dad as I wrote vows not only to my wife but to my daughters as well asking them could I adopt them.'
The couple met on dating website Plenty of Fish and got engaged in 2017. They had to postpone their original ceremony in 2020 due to Covid-19 restrictions.
Before the ceremony, Williams spoke to his wife and discussed whether he should ask the two girls if they wanted him to adopt them.
Williams, who is a case manager at a Family Services' company, said he had seen several videos on social media of people asking to adopt their stepchildren.

In a highly emotional clip, Williams addresses his two stepdaughters and explains to them how he has known them since they were aged one and two.
The family previously had rehearsals for the wedding ceremony, but there was no mention of the adoption proposal before Williams went off the pre-arranged script.
It took several seconds for the two girls understand what was happening.
Commenting after his video was shared widely across the internet, he said: 'When I saw their reaction, I wasn't surprised because I knew if it was bringing emotion out of me, it was going to bring emotion out of them – especially Abigail, who is the more emotional one.
'When it comes to me being in their life, that is something they are very sensitive about, so their reaction was understandable in how it touched them the way it did.
'We didn't rehearse it, so I knew why they were confused at first.
'But when my stepdaughters realized what was happening, they were all in and so tuned into my proposal that I felt like my proposal was something they had been waiting for all their life.
'I want people to understand that showing emotion is healthy, that fathers are needed in a child's life, and that there are good men out there who will step up when the other parent is absent.
'I want people to know how important companionship and respect is, even to children.'
