Two-year-old child found dead at Gateshead home as police launch probe into tragedy

Police are investigating after a two-year-old child died at an address in Gateshead on Saturday.

Officers were called to a house in Gateshead at around 8.40am on Saturday, 25 September, after receiving a report of an unresponsive child at the address.

The child was pronounced dead at the scene.

Northumbria Police has confirmed an investigation has been launched into the death.

A spokeswoman for the force said: 'At around 8.40am on Saturday, September 25, police received a report from the ambulance service of an unresponsive two-year old at an address in Gateshead.

'Officers attended the scene, but tragically the child was pronounced dead.

'An investigation into the death is being carried out at this time.'
