A meat and potato pie was named winner of the prestigious British Pie Awards last night
It was crowned best of more than 800 pies, including 70 from the vegan category – the most popular in this year's awards.
Vegan pies were controversially introduced to the awards in 2019 when the overall winner was a curried sweet potato, butternut squash and spinach pie.
The annual celebration is held in Melton Mowbray, home of the pork pie.
Host Matthew O'Callaghan, who is also chairman of the Melton Mowbray Pork Pie Association, said: 'Each and every year it is fantastic to see the range of delicious pies submitted to the British Pie Awards and this year was no different.

'Bowring Butchers submitted a truly scrumptious pie, and it was agreed across the board that their classic meat and potato masterpiece was the supreme champion of 2021.'
The winners were announced yesterday after the contest, at St Mary's Church, was postponed in March because of Covid.
Some 150 judges inspected entries across 23 categories.
