Teenagers spent hours trying to jump start 4WD - before the driver, 14, rolled it on a country road

Teenagers spent hours unsupervised jump-starting a 4WD in a skate park before crashing it and causing the death of a 16-year-old boy.

Nathanual Taylor, 16, was killed when a vehicle driven by a 14-year-old rolled multiple times on a country road near Emerald, in Queensland's Central Highlands.

How the children managed to jump start the car without anyone noticing or stopping them has baffled shattered locals searching for answers.

Some suggested other children assisted in push starting the stationary car.

Two other passengers, both 14, were rushed to hospital along with the driver.

Early indications indicate the car rolled several times before crashing.

Emergency services performed first aid on the critically injured passenger, but he died at the scene a short time later. 

Investigations conducted by the forensic crash unit continue and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

Nathanual, a student at Emerald High School, was described as a 'polite young boy' who loved boxing and super trucks.
