Tax disc issued to the Aston Martin driven by Sean Connery in Goldfinger fetches more than £25,000

A 51-year-old tax disc issued to the famous Aston Martin used in the James Bond movie classic 'Goldfinger' fetched more than £25,000 at auction.

Auctioneers Bonhams said that with the imminent release of the new James Bond film No Time to Die, 007-fever had clearly swept the saleroom at the Goodwood motor circuit in West Sussex.

For the 1970 UK tax disc issued to the original 'Goldfinger' Aston Martin DB5, used by Pinewood Studios in the James Bond film, sold for a staggering £25,250.

It is more than 10 times its pre-sale estimate, following a two-way bidding war in the Bonhams saleroom at the Goodwood Motor Circuit.

Tim Schofield, Head of Department, Bonhams Motor Cars UK, said of Bonhams' first Goodwood Revival Sale in two years: 'This was an excellent result, and we are thrilled to have set yet another auction world record with the sale of the XJ220.'

It is more than 10 times its pre-sale estimate, following a two-way bidding war in the Bonhams saleroom at the Goodwood Motor Circuit.

Two Jaguar supercars from different eras were top cats at the Bonhams Goodwood Revival Sale with a 1993 Jaguar XJ220, with just over 400 miles covered since new, setting a new auction world record for the model, selling for £460,000.

Meanwhile, its spiritual ancestor, a 1956/1980s D-Type Sports-Racing Two-Seater, owned by Goodwood Revival racer Valentine Lindsay, made £799,000 and was the top lot of the day.

No Time To Die has been delayed by a total of 18 months due to the ongoing Covid crisis, but has finally been set for release on September 30. 

Betting is already underway on which actor will replace the longtime favourite.

Luther star Idris Elba has been a firm fan favorite, as well as sparking heated debate about whether there cold ever be a black James Bond.

Bookies also reported heavy betting on Wolf Hall and Homeland star Damian Lewis as the next 007. If chosen, he would be the first red-haired actor to play the spy role.

Others considered possible replacements for Craig include Richard Madden, Tom Hiddleston, Henry Cavill, Michael Fassbender and Tom Hardy.
