Shock as footy star Cam McCarthy COLLAPSES at training and is rushed to hospital 

AFL star Cam McCarthy has been rushed to hospital after collapsing during a non-contact training session. 

The Fremantle Dockers forward, 25, was training with a small group of teammates when he collapsed to the ground suddenly, the club's general manager Peter Bell said.

'Cam was training really well with a small group of teammates in a non-contact session this morning when he suddenly collapsed on the ground,' Bell said.

'He was immediately assessed by our medical staff and an ambulance was called.

'Cam was subsequently admitted to hospital, where he is undergoing further assessment and tests to determine the possible cause of the collapse and what treatment will be required. 

'We will be in a position to comment further in due course.

'In the meantime, we will ensure that Cam and his family are provided with all the necessary care and support required.'

The Dockers' coach Justin Longmuir is scheduled to speak to the media later on Wednesday. 

McCarthy joined Fremantle in 2017 after three seasons playing for the Greater Western Sydney Giants.

He won the AFL Rising Star award in 2015 and led the Dockers in goal kicking in his first season with the club.
