Honest: Shirley Ballas has revealed the lengths she went to in the past to boost her self-confidence including having fat drained from her arms and legs and a boob job

She told the publication about her confidence issues: 'I have struggled with my self-esteem all my life. I've done all sorts to try to make myself feel more confident.

'I had my teeth straightened and fat drained out of my arms and legs; I thought doing my boobs would make my husband at the time like me more, but I was doing it for the wrong reasons.'

She added: 'You have to love yourself first. That's my message to every woman'.

In the shots for the publication Shirley wowed in a series of flamboyant pink, red and gold dresses as she posed up a storm.

Insecure: The Strictly Come Dancing judge, 61, spoke candidly with Prima about trying 'all sorts' such as having a breast enlargement to try and save her marriage (pictured left with her boob job before she had the implants removed in 2019 and right last Saturday)

In 2019 Shirley warned women to avoid boob jobs after she underwent a gruelling procedure to have her DD breast implants removed following a cancer scare.

The star endured a four-and-a-half-hour procedure to go back to her natural A cup.

In an interview afterwards Shirley urged women to do their research before having the procedure and admitted that she thought her ex-husband, Corky, who she split from in 2007, would find her 'more desirable' if she had the DD implants.

Happy: Elsewhere in the interview she also chatted about her blossoming romance with toyboy Danny Taylor, 61, 'changed her life', Strictly and her Christmas plans

Shirley told The Sun: 'Do your research about the implants. I did not do mine. I thought if I put them in I’d look better and my husband would think of me as more desirable.

'I made this choice many years ago not understanding what I was really doing, except telling myself I didn’t look good enough.'

Shirley went onto explain that she spent a gruelling four-and-a-half-hours under the knife having her implants removed, and said she was happy that she's reverted back to her natural size.

In her new interview with Prima Shirley also discussed her relationship with boyfriend Danny, who she met at pantomime rehearsals for Jack And The Beanstalk in 2018 in Darlington.

She said: 'My relationship with Danny has changed my life. He's very different to anyone I've been with before.

'First of all, he's 6ft 1in, he's the tallest man I've ever dated, and I love his jet black hair. He's also very kind and very caring – he's always there for me.

'I hope he'll propose one day, but he's never married and I think he's a bit nervous about it, so we'll see. Come on, Danny!'

Throwback: Shirley admitted that she thought her ex-husband, Corky, who she split from in 2007, would find her 'more desirable' if she had the DD implants

Before and after: Shirley decided to increase her bust size from a 32B to 34DD, although she had her implants removed last year (pictured)

Shirley has previously spoken about Danny being fully supportive of her decision to have her breast implants removed to significantly reduce her chances of having breast cancer.

She said last year: 'He's been a massive support. I couldn't have done this journey without him.

'It's quite a tough decision to make and it took me a few years to do it. It's definitely something that's running through the family.

'This is the first run into winter that I haven't got sick. I made a decision that I would take them out. They had separated, they were uncomfortable, they felt heavy.'

When asked if going back to her natural chest size has affected her body confidence in any way, Shirley said that while she's always struggled with insecurities about her curves, she feels happier than ever.

She said: 'Well I think you can't always go by what you see. I have struggled with body issues all my life. Since I can remember. I have a curvy figure. I'm not stick thin.

'What I'm learning now is to love yourself and how you are and how you're made.'

With Prima Shirley also touched on this years series of Strictly: 'I'm learning to be myself more on the show.

'That's something my son Mark said to me: I need to drop the walls because people can spot it when you're being guarded. They see right through it, so I might as well be the real me'.

Shirley is mother to Mark, 35, from her marriage to ex-husband Corky Ballas.

She also discussed going for her goals and focusing on her career, saying: 'I felt very alone in the past. When I had a career goal, I would build a wall round me as a coping mechanism and as a way of drowning out negative voices.

'I don't think that's a very healthy thing to do – it definitely had an effect on both my marriage and my friendships'.

The January issue of Prima is on sale from December 2.
