Queensland fisherman has close encounter with salt water crocodile initially mistaken for a stick

The astonishing moment a giant saltwater crocodile was caught by a fisherman in Queensland has been captured on camera.

The man, only known as Jim, was fishing off his boat at Hinchinbrook in North Queensland when he pulled in the huge catch.

In the short clip, he can be seen reeling in his line before it gets stuck in the murky water.

'That's got to be a big stick or something', the fisherman is heard saying as he continues to quickly reel in the line.

'It's heavy, whatever it is'.

He then gives the line another big pull before a large salter water crocodile breaches the top of the water.

'Oh my God! That is not a stick at all!', he says to his own surprise.

The footage then shows the crocodile laying still on the water before it starts thrashing against the fishing line.

Jim then sees the beast swimming underneath his boat before it emerges and removes itself from the hook.

'Well that's a first for me'.

Thankfully, no crocodiles or fisherman were harmed.

'After a short battle, I managed to free the lure from the crocodile and it swam away uninjured', Jim said.
