A urgent police investigation has been launched after a teenage girl was seen trying to escape from inside a car in north London.

Officers were called to Plevna Crescent in Haringey after a member of the public reported that they had seen a young girl, who is believed to be aged between 13-15, screaming for help inside a black Mercedes at 6.40pm on September 18.

The girl had been attempting to escape the car through an open rear window when she was pulled back into the vehicle, it was reported.

Today, the Metropolitan Police urged anyone with information to come forward.

The girl is described as black, aged approximately 13-15, with braided hair and was wearing red tracksuit bottoms and a red hoody.

Detective Inspector Lyndsey Billaney, North Area Command Unit, said: 'We are taking this report very, very seriously and are pursuing a number of urgent lines of enquiry to try to identify the girl and establish her welfare.
