Perth man doused in petrol and set alight at soup kitchen

A man who was visiting a soup kitchen was doused in petrol and set alight in front of horrified bystanders.

The 63-year-old man was visiting the homeless food charity on Beaufort Street in Perth on Saturday night.

His attacker fled the scene as he burned and onlookers desperately tried tp extinguish the flames.

A witness working in the kitchen said bystanders rushed the man into a nearby shower while they waited for emergency services to arrive.

He was then taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital to be treated for serious burns to his face and hands.

Police are still searching for his attacker and have not made any arrests.
