Peak hour chaos as Sydney CBD traffic is brought to a STANDSTILL after a serious motorbike smash

Sydney peak hour traffic has been brought to a standstill after a fatal motorcycle crash.

A motorcyclist was struck by a white truck on Abecrombie Street at Ultimo in inner Sydney at around 2.40pm on Thursday.

It's alleged the truck driver fled the scene after the collision, and the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at hospital.

The circumstances of the collision are still being investigated.

Traffic diversions are in place and motorists are requested to avoid the area, while vehicles are currently banked up along Parramatta Road.

Anyone who might have been in or near the Ultimo area at the time of the collision, particularly anyone who may have captured dash cam footage, is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
