New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is spotted taking a masked-up walk with her fiancé

Jacinda Ardern has been spotted taking a stroll in a striking yellow coat and a mask with her fiancé as New Zealand emerges from lockdown.

Two women filmed the Kiwi prime minister and Clarke Gayford walk by as they sat in their car eating takeaway burgers in Wellington.

At first the masked-up couple were so incognito they were not recognised but soon cracked up laughing when they realised.

Jacinda Ardern and her fiancé Clarke Gayford (pictured) were spotted on a masked-up stroll around Wellington on Sunday

'So who are these security uncles looking after these two people,' one of the women asks in the video uploaded to TikTok.

Her inquisitive façade cracks when she quickly realises who she is filming asking: 'Is that Jacinda?'

She then exclaims 'it's Jacinda' before the two women crack up laughing together, not believing they didn't recognise their own prime minister.

'Oh Aunty Cindy,' the woman filming laughs as she walks past.

The women filming the TikTok did not realise it was their Prime Minister until she got close to the car and they recognised who they were filming

New Zealand is in level 2 Covid restrictions except for Auckland which is locked down in level 3.

This means that those outside of Auckland are able to gather in groups of up to 100.

Retails, shopping malls, cafes, restaurants, cinemas and public spaces including playgrounds and gyms have also been opened outside of Auckland, with children allowed back in schools.

Face masks are encouraged to be worn any time a resident leaves their home but are only compulsory when taking public transport, when visiting a healthcare facility, and inside public venues.

Social distances is also encouraged with QR scanning into facilities and services mandatory.

The two women colloquially called Jacinda Ardern (pictured with her family) 'Aunty Cindy' as she walked past

Viewers commented on the nickname New Zealanders call their Prime Minister (pictured), saying there's no where else that calls their PM 'aunty'

Jacinda Ardern is aiming to make New Zealand one of the most vaccinated countries in the world, immunising 90 per cent of the population.

She told The AM Show this goal could help eliminate the need for strict stay-at-home orders and see restrictions across the country eased.

It could also lead to people self-isolating at home with shorter isolation periods and the opening on international borders from next year.

New Zealand recorded 12 new cases of Covid on Tuesday
