Missing paddle boarder dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow is found dead

A missing paddle boarder who was dressed like Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates Of The Caribbean was found dead in a Florida river on Monday morning.

Joshua Grant Hensley, 43, had last been seen on Saturday evening by park rangers as he launched his paddleboard at Hunter Springs Park in Crystal River, north of Tampa. 

On Monday, the Coast Guard and Citrus County Sheriff's Office noted that Hensley's body was found was found by marine unit deputies in Kings Bay.

His body was found on Monday morning after going missing while out on his paddle board

It's believed Hensley was paddleboarding to Shell Island to watch the sunset, but something went wrong during the journey.

His paddleboard was found by deputies on Monday morning in King's Bay near Pete's Pier.

Hensley had been dressed like Captain Jack Sparrow at the time of the incident and was wearing brown colonial-style pants and a brown and white jacket, and a brown bandana, sheriff's officials said.

'I would hate for it to happen to anybody. It stinks that it happened to him,' said Captain Zac Zachry to ABC Action News.

 Hensley disappeared on Saturday evening. His body wasn't found until Monday morning 

Zachry volunteered to search for him. Just an hour after starting up his boat he saw Hensley's body.

'You are sad about it. You’ve seen him around. It’s unfortunate he’s got kids. He’s got a family. He seemed to be a really really nice person. Genuine,' he said.

In the Crystal River community as he was infamous for dressing up as the Pirates of the Caribbean character. 

He would often dress up and perform tricks like handstands and pyrotechnics on the paddleboard often stopping to take pictures for children and families along the water. 

Hensley was also a paddleboard designer and tour-guide under his business Big Foot Paddle Boards. 

'We offer our deepest condolences to Joshua's family and friends in this difficult time,' the Sheriff's Office said. 

'''Captain Jack' was a beloved figure in the community and will be missed.' 

'He’d do tricks for the kids back and forth as they swam, weather bringing his paddle board to nearly a 90 degree angle as he paddles by, or standing on his head on his board as he floated by,' read a comment from Carrie Rizor Anderson. 'He would always tie his board up, and walk around the beach, taking pictures and entertaining families and their children.'

'He’s such a great guy,' read another post from Natalie Isable. 'I loved running into him when I’d go to Hunter Springs and even just around town.'
