Manhunt after a 20-year-old man is brutally stabbed in the stomach in Fairfield, Sydney

A man is on the run following a violent stabbing on a Sydney street which left a man with serious stomach injuries, 

Police were called to Fairfield in the city's west just after 3am on Wednesday where they found the injured 20-year-old man. 

He was treated by paramedics for a single stab wound to the stomach before being rushed to Liverpool Hospital in a serious but stable condition - with cops now hunting for the attacker.

Detectives have released a description of a man they believe can assist with their inquiries into the incident. 

He is described as being white and was wearing dark tracksuit pants, grey shoes, a white coloured baseball cap, and a white t-shirt with a small motif in the centre chest area. 

A crime scene has also been established at the location on Fairfield Street near the Fairfield Train Station. 

Anyone who may have CCTV or dashcam footage from the area early on Wednesday or who may have information is asked to confidentially contact Fairfield Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
