Man accused of assaulting his ex and attempting to kidnap her and baby son

A 36-year-old Sydney man is accused of bashing his former partner before kidnapping her and her baby in Sydney's southwest.

Police say the man and a 28-year-old woman were at a home in Greenacre on Sunday morning when they began arguing.

Police say the man hit the woman repeatedly on her face, head and body and when she tried to leave with her eight-month-old son, he forced them into his car.

The woman unsuccessfully tried to escape from the car twice – calling out to passers-by for help - before being forced back into the car. She was then driven to her home in Sadleir before the man left.

Police arrested the man on Sunday night and charged him with kidnapping, assault, breaching an apprehended violence order and breaching bail.

He's been refused bail and is due to appear in Bankstown Local Court on Monday.
