Mallala train crash: Two people dead after a freight train slammed into a Ford 4WD near Adelaide  

A man and a woman have died after a freight train slammed into a car at a level crossing on the outskirts of Adelaide.

The horrific incident unfolded at about 3pm on Thursday when a goods train travelling south towards Adelaide collided with a Ford 4WD just south of Mallala. 

The driver of the car and their passenger died on impact.

Major Crash Investigators have attended the scene and are investigating.  

The 1.8km Pacific National freight train was travelling from Perth to Melbourne. 

The train line has been closed until further notice.

The 1.8km Pacific National freight train was travelling from Perth to Melbourne

Mallala Road through to Two Wells Road has also been closed. 

Anyone who witnesses the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers. 

The two deaths brings the number of lives lost this year to 19, compared to 17 at the same time last year.
