Major rail disruption as GWR and LNER suspend services over 'crack' fears

Huge disruption is expected on railways today after two major operators announced it had halted services to inspect high-speed trains over fears of "cracks" in carriages.

Great Western Railway and LNER suspended services on Saturday morning with passengers urged not to travel while urgent inspections are carried out.

Hull Trains services have also been disrupted.

A statement on the LNER website said: "We are experiencing significant disruption. We advise customers not to travel today. Please visit our Travel Alerts page for information on refunds and alternative travel."

While on the Great Western Railway website, it states: "Due to more trains than usual needing repairs at the same time at London Paddington fewer trains are able to run on some lines."
